Frequently Asked Questions

About Gray Mountain Wellness

What is Gray Mountain Wellness?

Gray Mountain Wellness is a holistic wellness and herbal education practice rooted in Appalachian tradition and informed by clinical nursing experience.

We offer small-batch herbal products, educational resources, wellness consultations, and practical support for individuals, families, caregivers, and those navigating the many seasons of life.

Our approach is simple: Rooted in tradition. Guided by care. We believe wellness is not one-size-fits-all and that thoughtful education can help you become more informed and confident in caring for yourself and those you love.

Are you a nurse?

Yes. Andrea is a Registered Nurse (RN) and herbalist. Her nursing background informs her approach to education and wellness support.

However, Gray Mountain Wellness operates across several distinct areas, including herbal education, wellness coaching, educational classes, and the sale of apothecary products. These services are not a substitute for establishing care with your physician or other licensed healthcare provider.

Your purchase of a product, participation in an educational class, or wellness consultation does not automatically establish a nurse-patient relationship.

What does "clinical herbal care" mean?

At Gray Mountain Wellness, "clinical herbal care" refers to an approach that combines traditional herbal knowledge with an understanding of health, wellness, and clinical nursing experience.

It does not mean that Gray Mountain Wellness replaces your physician, nurse practitioner, or other licensed healthcare provider. Herbal education and wellness support are intended to complement—not replace—appropriate medical care.

Herbal Products & The Apothecary

What kinds of products do you offer?

Our apothecary offers small-batch herbal products made with care and intention. Offerings may include herbal teas, infused honeys, elixirs, traditional herbal preparations, and other wellness products.

Because our offerings are made in small batches and may change seasonally, we encourage you to visit our online shop for our current selection.

Are your products handmade?

Yes. Our apothecary products are prepared in small batches with careful attention to ingredient quality, preparation, labeling, and storage.

Whenever possible, we thoughtfully source quality ingredients and honor traditional herbal preparation methods while maintaining a practical, evidence-informed approach to wellness.

Are your herbal products medicines?

Our herbal products are sold as wellness products and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.

Herbs and natural products can have meaningful effects in the body and may interact with medications or affect certain health conditions. "Natural" does not automatically mean "safe for everyone."

Please review product ingredients carefully and consult your physician, pharmacist, or other qualified healthcare professional when appropriate.

Can I use your products instead of my prescription medication?

No. Our products are not intended to replace prescribed medications or other medical treatment.

Do not stop, reduce, or change a prescribed medication based solely on information provided by Gray Mountain Wellness or through our products, classes, website, social media, or educational materials.

If you are considering combining herbs or supplements with medications, speak with your healthcare provider or pharmacist about potential interactions and individual safety considerations.

Can I take your products if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Some herbs may not be appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and individual circumstances vary.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, or caring for an infant, please consult your qualified healthcare provider before using herbal products or supplements.

Always review the complete ingredient list before purchasing or using a product.

Can children use your herbal products?

Children can have different safety considerations than adults, and herbal products are not automatically appropriate for every child.

Please consult your child's pediatrician or another qualified healthcare professional before giving herbal products to a child, particularly infants and young children.

What if I have allergies?

Please carefully review the complete ingredient list before purchasing or using any product.

If you have a known allergy or sensitivity, contact us before purchasing if you have questions about ingredients or potential cross-contact. If you have a severe or life-threatening allergy, please use appropriate caution and consult your healthcare provider before use.

How should I store my herbal products?

Storage instructions vary by product. Always follow the instructions provided on your product label.

In general, herbal products should be stored as directed and protected from excessive heat, moisture, light, and contamination when applicable.

Because many of our products are handmade in small batches, proper storage is important for maintaining quality and freshness.

Why do some products have different colors, textures, or flavors?

Natural herbal products can vary from batch to batch.

Differences in color, aroma, flavor, texture, or appearance may occur because of variations in the plants, harvest, growing conditions, preparation methods, and natural ingredients used.

These variations are a normal part of working with natural materials and do not necessarily indicate a problem with the product.

Consultations & Wellness Support

What happens during a wellness consultation?

A consultation is an opportunity to discuss your wellness goals, concerns, lifestyle, and questions in a supportive and educational setting.

Depending on the service you select, we may discuss areas such as nutrition, lifestyle habits, stress, sleep, self-care, herbal traditions, and general wellness education.

The goal is to help you become more informed and empowered in your own wellness journey.

Do you diagnose medical conditions?

No.

Gray Mountain Wellness does not diagnose medical conditions or replace the care of your physician or other licensed healthcare provider.

If you have symptoms that may require medical evaluation, you should seek care from an appropriate healthcare professional.

Do you prescribe medications?

No.

Gray Mountain Wellness does not prescribe prescription medications or instruct clients to start, stop, or change prescribed medications.

If you have questions about your medications, speak with the healthcare professional who prescribed them or your pharmacist.

Can you tell me which herbs I should take for my condition?

Herbal education may be discussed as part of a wellness consultation, but Gray Mountain Wellness does not replace individualized medical evaluation or treatment by a licensed healthcare provider.

Any discussion of herbs, supplements, nutrition, or wellness practices is intended for educational purposes and should be considered alongside your personal health history and the guidance of your healthcare team.

Can you review my medications and supplements?

We can provide general educational information about herbs, supplements, and commonly recognized considerations. However, medication management and individualized medication interaction assessment should be performed by your prescribing healthcare professional or pharmacist.

Never discontinue or change a medication without consulting the appropriate healthcare provider.

Do I need to see a doctor if I am working with Gray Mountain Wellness?

Yes, when medical care is appropriate.

Wellness education and herbal support can complement conventional healthcare but should not be used to delay or replace necessary medical evaluation or treatment.

If you have a new, worsening, severe, or concerning symptom, seek appropriate medical care.

For emergencies, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Classes & Education

Do you offer herbalism classes?

Yes. Gray Mountain Wellness offers educational opportunities designed to help individuals and families learn more about traditional herbal practices, wellness, and practical self-care.

Classes may be offered online, in person, or through special workshops and community events.

Check our website and social media for upcoming opportunities.

Are your classes medical training?

No. Our classes are educational and are not a substitute for professional medical, nursing, pharmacy, or other licensed healthcare education.

Classes are designed to increase knowledge and confidence around wellness and traditional herbal practices.

Do you offer caregiver education?

Yes. Educational opportunities may include practical instruction for family caregivers, including topics related to supporting loved ones in the home.

Educational content is intended to supplement—not replace—appropriate instruction from the individual's healthcare team and does not create a nurse-patient relationship.

Safety & Your Healthcare Team

Can I use herbs with my prescription medications?

Sometimes, but it depends on the specific herbs, medications, doses, and your individual health circumstances.

Some herbs and supplements may interact with medications or affect conditions such as blood pressure, blood sugar, bleeding risk, liver function, or other aspects of health.

Always discuss herbal products and supplements with your physician, pharmacist, or other qualified healthcare professional, particularly if you take prescription medications or have a chronic health condition.

What should I do if I experience a reaction to a product?

Stop using the product and seek appropriate medical care if you experience a concerning or serious reaction.

For signs of a medical emergency, call 911 or seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Please also contact Gray Mountain Wellness to report the concern so we can document the issue and follow up appropriately.

Can I use herbal products if I have a chronic health condition?

Possibly, but individual circumstances matter.

Certain herbs may not be appropriate for people with specific medical conditions or for those taking certain medications. Always discuss new herbal products or supplements with your healthcare provider when you have a chronic condition or take prescription medications.

Orders, Shipping & Returns

How quickly will my order ship?

Because our products are prepared in small batches, processing times may vary.

Current processing and shipping information will be provided during checkout or on the applicable product page.

Can I return an herbal product?

For safety and quality reasons, opened herbal products and consumable products may not be eligible for return.

Please review our current Shipping & Returns Policy before placing your order. If you receive a damaged, incorrect, or defective item, please contact us promptly so we can help resolve the issue.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please contact Gray Mountain Wellness as soon as possible after delivery and provide photographs of the damaged package and product when appropriate.

We will review the situation and work with you to determine the appropriate resolution.

Can I cancel my order?

Because many products are made or prepared in small batches, orders may begin processing shortly after they are placed.

If you need to cancel an order, contact us as soon as possible. We cannot guarantee cancellation once an order has entered processing or has shipped.
