Feel Better Honey: A Little Comfort in a Jar
Welcome back to my kitchen table! If there is one thing I love about keeping a home apothecary, it is having simple, familiar ingredients on hand that have been used in traditional home care for generations. Sometimes the things we reach for most often are not complicated at all. A spoonful of honey, a little ginger, and a pinch of turmeric can bring together comfort, flavor, and a bit of traditional herbal wisdom in one little jar.
That is the thinking behind my Feel Better Honey here at Gray Mountain Wellness. I wanted to bring together three ingredients that each have a place in the kitchen and a long history of use in traditional wellness practices: raw honey, ginger, and turmeric.

Why Raw Honey?
Honey has been treasured for centuries, long before we had grocery store shelves full of cough drops and flavored syrups. I especially appreciate raw honey because it is minimally processed and retains many of the naturally occurring compounds found in honey, including enzymes, antioxidants, and other plant-derived compounds from the flowers the bees visit. Honey also has a naturally soothing texture that can help coat an irritated throat, and research supports its use for easing cough symptoms in some situations.
There is something wonderfully simple about stirring honey into a warm cup of tea or taking a small spoonful when your throat feels scratchy. Honey brings natural sweetness to this blend, too, helping balance the earthy warmth of the other ingredients.
One important reminder from your friendly neighborhood nurse: honey should never be given to babies younger than 12 months because of the risk of infant botulism.
The Warming Goodness of Ginger
Ginger is one of those kitchen staples that has earned its place in both the spice cabinet and traditional herbal preparations. Its warming, spicy flavor makes it a natural partner for honey, and it has a long history of use for digestive comfort and nausea. Ginger contains naturally occurring compounds, including gingerols, that have been studied for their biological activity.
I love how ginger gives this honey a little warmth and personality. It is familiar, useful, and versatile, whether you are adding it to a cup of tea or looking for a flavorful addition to your everyday kitchen routine.
A Golden Touch of Turmeric
Turmeric brings the beautiful golden color to this blend, along with a long history of traditional use in food and wellness practices. It contains curcumin and other naturally occurring compounds that researchers continue to study for their effects in the body. Turmeric is often associated with traditional approaches to supporting a healthy inflammatory response, although the benefits depend on how it is prepared and used, and research on turmeric does not mean that a spoonful of turmeric honey treats or prevents disease.
For me, turmeric is one of those ingredients that reminds us how food and traditional plant knowledge have always been intertwined. It adds an earthy note to the honey and pairs beautifully with ginger.
Three Simple Ingredients, One Thoughtful Blend
Raw honey, ginger, and turmeric each bring something different to the jar. The honey provides sweetness and a soothing texture, the ginger adds warmth, and the turmeric contributes its golden color and earthy flavor. Together, they make a comforting addition to a cup of tea or a simple way to bring these familiar ingredients into your kitchen.
You can stir a spoonful into warm—not boiling—tea, mix it with warm water and lemon, or drizzle a little over oatmeal. I always encourage people to think of preparations like this as one part of caring for themselves, alongside rest, hydration, nourishing food, and appropriate medical care when it is needed.
As a nurse, I appreciate understanding what we use and why. As an herbalist, I appreciate the generations of kitchen and garden wisdom that have helped keep these ingredients part of everyday life. I don't believe those perspectives have to compete. I think they can sit down at the same kitchen table and have a good conversation.
A Little Help from My Kitchen to Yours
Of course, life gets busy. Between family, work, and everything else that fills a day, not everyone has the time or inclination to prepare their own small-batch creations. That is one reason I enjoy making products for Gray Mountain Wellness. I get to bring together ingredients I value, prepare them thoughtfully, and share them with people who appreciate simple, traditional kitchen staples.
If Feel Better Honey sounds like something you would enjoy keeping in your own pantry, take a look at Gray Mountain Wellness and see what is available. And if you have questions about building a home apothecary, using herbs thoughtfully, or caring for a loved one at home, I also offer one-on-one wellness consultations.
Until next time, keep your kettle handy, make room for a little golden goodness, and remember: there is always room for you at my kitchen table.
With care from my mountain home to yours,
Andrea
